Heart and Soul Statements

After Final Vetting 4/11/2024

History and Culture – Our town values its rich, industrious history of farming, fishing, forestry, home occupations, and original indigenous people. We are committed to the preservation of its exceptional scenic, rural, and historic character.

We appreciate our community’s caring and responsible culture that promotes neighborly support, community-based activities, and the opportunity to give and receive.

Small Town/Rural Community –  We value our small rural community with its open, quiet spaces, independent businesses, and activities that enhance a safe, close-knit, neighborly feel. We appreciate our proximity to neighboring communities for larger amenities including hospitals, law enforcement, cultural events, and shopping.

Environment – We are committed to caring for the diverse and peaceful natural environment, the clean air, dark sky, beaches, ocean and fresh waters, forests, mountains, and wildlife of Lincolnville that are essential to the well-being of all.

Safe Access – We strive for safe public access to schools, businesses, services, and parks as a walkable/bikeable community for the health, safety, and enjoyment of all residents.

Agriculture/Forestry/Marine Resources – We honor our community’s legacy of agriculture, forestry, and maritime activities. We encourage the endeavors and responsible management by residents that foster a rural quality of life and healthy local products.

Economy – We value the prosperity of the local businesses, services, workers, tradespeople, and artisans, as well as the wide variety of home occupations that quietly contribute to the economic resilience and uniquely Maine rural character of Lincolnville.

We recognize the value of infrastructure that supports economic growth while maintaining a healthy interdependence of year-round, seasonal, recreational, and remote work.

Housing – We value reasonably priced housing that fits our rural character, allowing for variety in types and designs, while preserving green space and open land, and is available to workers, families, and seniors.

We encourage denser housing in the village centers while maintaining the historic character and the restoration of some older homes.

Public Services – We highly value our quality K-8 school, our community library, local health care services, community activities of local organizations, and informal communication networks like the Lincolnville Bulletin Board Google group that are vital to our well-being, enjoyment of life, and sense of connectedness.

We are committed to our form of town government that’s driven by community participation and we take pride in our public facilities, including our town office, fire department, parks, and roads, and especially the people who staff and maintain them.
